With the advent of global and open market, there is a pressure to compete with the best in the world. India with its entire natural and human resources has an edge over other countries. In view of the competitive world environment in the context of the WTO Agreement, renewed concentration on productivity, quality and value addition is one of the concerns of the farmers of our country. The Indian horticultural efforts seek to assuage such concerns of the farmers because of the inherent potentials in the Indian Horticulture.

The MSAMB in collaboration with the Practical Training Center (PTC +) of The Netherlands started one of the most advanced training centers in the country, namely the Horticulture Training Center, with facilities of international standards, under National Institute of Post-harvest Technology (NIPHT), co-financed by The Netherlands Development Finance Company, (FMO), Den Haag, a Government of Netherlands enterprise.

HORTICULTURE TRAINING CENTER

The Maharashtra State Agricultural Marketing Board (MSAMB) has been one of the most committed organizations of our country seeking, providing and protecting the interests of the farmers and the farm community. Therefore, in order to strengthen the abilities of our farmers for better horticultural productivity, international quality horticultural produce and for multifarious value addition techniques and opportunities, the MSAMB proposed, in the year 1998 to establish a world class Horticulture Training Center at Pune.
